Shadforth Christmas Tree Festival

This is first time St. Cuthbert’s Church, Shadforth (a small country church in a small country village) has hosted a Tree Festival. There are to be 20 x 6’ real trees on view plus smaller novelty trees decorated/sponsored by local families, organisations, businesses and other churches.

The themes chosen are varied and will include both the traditional and quirky!

7.30pm, Thursday 8th December| Gala Preview Evening . Entry is by ticket only costing £8 and includes canapés, cheese and wine with Live Music from violinist Emma Fisk Nicholson and guitarist James ’Flying Fingers’ Birkett. Tickets are limited and available from the Church Wardens – Joan Bel and Olive Langan (churchwardens@shadforthchurch.org.uk)

11am-5pm, Friday 9th – Sunday 11 December | Church Open – Seasonal refreshments will be on sale as will a programme-£2 and a quiz sheet-£1(prize) There will be a Christmas Raffle drawn on the last day.

East Durham Churches Together Harvest Thanksgiving

Join us for the East Durham Churches Together Harvest Thanksgiving Service at St Cuthbert’s. We welcome the Salvation Army Band and the Revd Tim Ferguson, Chaplain to Hild-Bede College, Durham University and Bridging-the-Gap officer for Durham Diocese as visiting preacher. The service will be followed by Harvest Broth.

At the service, gifts of tinned and dried food for the Durham Foodbank will be welcome.

Family Fun in Sherburn Hill Park

Every TUESDAY in Sherburn Hill Park starting on 26 July (then 2,9,16,23,30 August), supervised fun activities for children and young people will be available. Activities will include:

  • Football / Volleyball / Badminton / Rounders
  • Bracelet making / Duck tape crafts / Drawing / Nature activities
  • Board games / Messy games / Water games
  • Much more!

Early Bird Band with Paul Edis

Come along to hear the Early Bird Band with Paul Edis. Admission by donation. Donations go to support the Syrian Refugees in County Durham and the church.

The Early Bird Band are a group of young and talented musicians, accompanied and tutored by one of the North East’s finest jazz musicians, Paul Edis.

Cuddy’s Summer Bash

At St. Cuthbert’s Church with Houghton Area Youth Band and singer Chris Dakers. Tickets £5 from Gail Bartley (Tel 07913 917 550) or the churchwardens or pay at the door. Refreshments included.

 

Ordination of Rev. Dr Richard Briggs

Richard is being priested on Saturday 2 July at 5pm in Durham Cathedral. We will be ordering tickets.There will then be a united eucharist at St Giles’ at 10am on Sunday 3 July when Richard will celebrate the eucharist for the first time – followed by a picnic!
